Morocco Imperial Cities Itinerary

SATURDAY
Depart South Africa on an evening flight from Cape Town, Johannesburg or other centres to Casablanca.

SUNDAY: Casablanca-Rabat (100Km)
Arrive at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca where you will be met, assisted and transferred to Casablanca for a sightseeing tour of the “White City”.  Walk through the narrow streets of the Medina, see the grand scale of the architectural buildings in United Square and marvel at the Hassan II Mosque, built on a rock platform in the sea. Also visit the Court House, various souks and the central market, the 13th century Habous district and the wealthy Cornice Boulevard of Ain Diab where you will see villas side by side with corporate headquarters. Optional lunch in Mohammedia - Casablanca’s popular resort playground, where the restaurants are renowned for their fish dishes. Thereafter you continue to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay.

MONDAY: Rabat-Moulay Idriss-Volubilis-Meknes-Fès (200Km)
After breakfast, you will visit the “Imperial garden city” which begins with the Kasbah of Oudayas. Its principal gateway is one of the most beautiful in Morocco and inside is a 17th century palace with delightful Andalusian Gardens. Afterwards, you will see the Hassan Tower (if completed, this mosque would have been the 2nd largest in the Islamic world) and the extraordinary walls of the Mechouar surrounding the Royal Palace. Before reaching Meknes, you will have a short visit to Moulay Idriss, a sacred Islamic town named after Morocco’s most venerated saint, before going through the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Optional lunch, followed by sightseeing at Meknes, the “Moroccan Versailles”. The town was founded in the 17th century by Sultan Moulay Ismail and had over 50 palaces and 45km of exterior walls. Dinner and overnight stay in Fes.

TUESDAY: Fes
After breakfast, you have a full day of sightseeing. Fes is the oldest imperial city where you will visit the medieval Medina and religious Islamic centres, as well as the Medersas University, the Karaouine Mosque and University (the oldest in the world) and the beautiful mosaic Nejjarin Fountain. In the evening there will be sightseeing of the famous souks of Fes. Dinner and overnight stay.

WEDNESDAY: Fes-Marrakech (500Km)
After breakfast, you will depart for Marrakech via Berber villages and towns, namely Immouzer and Ifrane, a delightful ski resort well known for its wood carving. Reach Beni Mellal through the mountain regions and have an optional lunch. Dinner and overnight stay in Marrakech.

THURSDAY: Marrakech
After breakfast, you will spend the whole day sightseeing in this fascinating city. Marrakesh is the “pearl of the south” founded by the Almoravides dynasty at the end of the 12th century. This city is located in the heart of a palm grove and surrounded by snow-topped mountains. Spend the morning discovering the souks of Marrakesh and the Djemaa El Fna square, which by day is a market place but at night an endless parade of a variety of performers and entertainers. Lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon you will visit the lavishly decorated Saadian Tombs, Dar Si Said which houses the Museum of Moroccan Arts, the Menara and Agdal city gardens, the Koutoubia (this tower is nearly 70m high and is visible for miles), and the Bahia Palace. This evening you have an optional dinner in a typical Moroccan restaurant with folklore show.

FRIDAY: Marrakech- Casablanca (220 Km)
This morning is at leisure to do some last minute shopping or sightseeing. Optional lunch. Later you will depart for Casablanca. Dinner and overnight stay.

SATURDAY: Casablanca - Departure
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Airport, where you will be assisted through the airport formalities for your return flight.

SUNDAY: South Africa
